SIZING OVERVIEW
Fit should not be compromised for any other considerations. Body shape and sizing varies from customer to customer. Not every customer will fit every pack. Adjustable packs allow customers to fine-tune the fit for optimal carry performance.
TORSO LENGTH
Pack size is based on torso length.
HIPBELT SIZE
The hipbelt size and fit affects how the load transfers from the pack and carries on the hips.
SHOULDER STRAP
The harness size and/or length of the strap affects how the pack stabilizes and wraps around the shoulders.
TORSO LENGTH/SIZING
Many Osprey packs are available in multiple sizes to fit a range of torso lengths. To determine your torso measurement, please see diagram below.
Find iliac crest.
Top of hip bone
On back of neck,
find C7 vertebra.
Touch your chin to your chest and feel the large protruding bone at the base of your neck.
Measure from C7 vertebra to the iliac crest to determine torso length.
HIPBELT SIZING
To determine hipbelt size, measure around the hips at the iliac crest, not the waist. The padded portion should wrap well around the hips, leaving a gap of 3" to 6" between the tips of both hip pads when securely tightened.

VESTPACK SIZING
The Duro/Dyna 6, 1.5 and LT come in six sizes: men’s S, M, L and women’s S, M, L; the Duro/Dyna 15 comes in four sizes: men’s S/M and M/L and women’s S/M and M/L. Based on torso length and chest circumference, these packs are sized like apparel. The surface area of the harness evenly distributes the weight of the pack on both the smaller and larger volumes. Measurements should be taken at widest part of chest slightly below armpits.

PACK FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. POSITION THE PACK
Completely loosen the pack's hipbelt, harness and load-lifter straps. Load the pack with 10-20 lbs./4- kg. of gear. Put the pack on and make sure the hipbelt is centered and rests over the hipbone. The hipbelt padding should sit halfway above/below the hipbone.
2. BUCKLE HIPBELT
Buckle and tighten the hipbelt evenly using the cross-body Ergo-Pull. The padding of the hipbelt should wrap around the hips with approximately 1-3in./2.5-6cm. of webbing between the buckle and the hipbelt when tightened.
3. HIPBELT ADJUSTMENT
If the hipbelt is too large and "tops out" or does not offer the preferred amount of coverage, you may need a different pack size, model or adjustment(Fit-On-The-Fly hipbelt imaged).
4. TIGHTEN SHOULDER STRAP
Tighten the shoulder harness straps by pulling them down and back.
5. TIGHTEN LOAD LIFTERS
Tightening the load lifters will pull the pack close to the body and help stabilize the load. If the torso length on the pack is adjusted correctly, the load lifters will sit between ad 30- to 60-degree angle and align naturally with the shoulder straps.
6. CHECK TORSO LENGTH
Locate the harness yoke—this is where the harness straps come together near the base of the neck. Locate the C7 vertebra—the large protruding bone at the base of the neck. The yoke should be 1in./2.5 cm. to 2 in./5 cm below the C7 vertebra
7. Torso Length-Harness Adjustment
If the torso length is too long or too short, you may need a different pack size, model or an adjustment. Consider making an adjustment if:
- Load lifters are angled below/above 30-60 degrees
- Yoke to C7 vertebra dsitance is more than 2 in./5 cm. or less than 1 in./2.5 cm.
- There is a gap between the harness and back of the shoulder
8. CHECK HARNESS FIT
The harness straps should wrap fully around the shoulders with no gaps between the pack and back. The padded part of the shoulder straps should end at 2 in./5 cm. below the armpits without topping out.
9. HARNESS/SHOULDER STRAP ADJUSTMENT
If the harness is too small or too large, but the torso length of the pack is correct, you may need a different pack size, model or adjustment (Fit-On-The-Fly™ shoulder strap imaged).
10. BUCKLE THE STERNUM STRAP
Adjust the sternum strap to approximately 2 in./5 cm. below the collarbone.

FAQ ABOUT EXTENDED FIT (EF)
Q - DO EXTENDED FIT PACKS COST MORE THAN OTHER SIZES?
A - Not at all! We firmly believe that there's no reason to charge people more, just for having a bigger body. Extended Fit is just a new sizing option to help more people find comfort, joy and adventure outdoors-not an upsell.
Q - WHAT IF I FALL BETWEEN EXTENDED FIT AND YOUR STANDARD FIT SIZES?
A - There is some overlap between our Extended Fit sizing and our other sizing. If you fall within this overlap, you may consider whether you'd benefit from any of the Extended Fit features, such as repositioned hipbelt pockets or extended shoulder straps, to help decide what would be most comfortable and effective for you. Of course, nothing beats trying packs on in store.
Q - HOW DO I KNOW WHICH EXTENDED FIT SIZE I SHOULD ORDER?
A - While some Extended Fit packs come in one size, there are several with different EF size options. These sizes refer to the torso length of the pack, not your waist size or chest size. If you have a shorter torso length, a smaller pack size will likely fit you best. People with longer torsos will find that larger pack sizes fit best. Visit our Size Guide for guidance on measuring your torso or visit a retailer for help.
Q - WHERE CAN I BUY EXTENDED FIT PACKS?
A - Extended Fit packs are available at select retailers, where you can try on different packs and sizes with the help of a trained employee. Find a retailer near you and call ahead to confirm inventory. Extended Fit is also available online at osprey.com where we offer free shipping and returns so you can find the right size for you from the comfort of home, hassle free.
WOMEN'S-SPECIFIC FIT
For more than 25 years, Osprey has been designing packs for women. We understand that body-specific fit crucial to your experience on the trail. Our women's-specific torso, harness and hipbelt ensure a proper fit to maximize efficiency, comfort, and safety.
- Shorter torso length
- Narrower, shorter harness with curves designed to accommodate most women's necks, shoulders and chests.
- A hipbelt designed to wrap naturally around the curves of woman's hips, offering better load stabilization and support.
MOUNTAIN BIKE PACK FIT
1. POSITION THE PACK
The backpanel and harness straps should wrap fully around your shoulders with no gaps between the pack and your back.
2. ADJUST THE PACK
The padded part of the harness straps should end 1"/2.5 cm - 2"/5 cm below the armpits.
3. BUCKLE THE STERNUM STRAP
The sternum strap adjusted to approximately 2"5 cm below the collarbone.
MOUNTAIN BIKE LUMBAR PACK FIT
1. BUCKLE THE HIPBELT
Buckle and tighten the hipbelt using the cross-body Ergo-Pull. the padding of the hipbelt should wrap around the hips with approximately 1-3 in./2.5-6 cm. of webbing between the buckle and the hipbelt when tightened. Breathable airmesh wrap hipbelt contours over the hipbone to provide a comfortable, secure and stable carry.
2. ADJUST THE WAIST STRAPS
ErgoPull waist closure system allows for proper snug and stable fit
TRAIL RUNNING PACK FIT
1. POSITION THE PACK
This pack anchors to the rib cage to prevent unwanted bouncing. To do this, it needs to sit higher on your torso than a typical hiking pack. When first putting on your pack, make sure the top of the pack sits just below the base of your neck
2. POSITION DUAL CHEST STRAPS
Buckle both sternum straps, leaving the webbing a little loose for now. The top chest strap should be positioned 1-2 in./2.5-5 cm. below the collarbone. The bottom chest strap can be moved up toward the middle of the harness to accommodate free and easy breathing; however, keep it down low if pack stability is your primary concern. For women, adjust the chest strap position so that it fits comfortably and keeps the pack snug.
3. TIGHTEN CHEST STRAPS
Before tightening the chest straps, make sure you have completely loosened the under-arm side body straps on each side of the pack. With the chest strap positioned appropriately, pinch the end of the webbing with your thumb and index finger and pull the strap until the tension pulls the strap from your grasp. This helps avoid overtightening the pack. Make small adjustments as necessary to ensure a secure fit.
4. TIGHTEN SIDE BODY STRAPS
Pull the side body straps that connect the harness and pack under each arm. This will pull the lower portion of the pack against the body and snug the pack around your ribcage. Double-check the chest harness strap positioning and tension to ensure optimal fit, comfort and stability.
5. TIGHTEN SHOULDER HARNESS STRAPS & HIPBELT
Cinch the harness to hipbelt strap after fitting the chest straps. Then, buckle and tighten the hipbelt buckle. It is not as important to place directly over the iliac crest (hip bone) as the weight is being supported by the shoulder harness.
