ALEXANDRA GARCIA

#ospreyambassador

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Alex Garcia learned to love the wild outdoors - mountains to sea - from a young age. After graduating from college in 2015, she immigrated to Virginia seeking career opportunities that weren't available back home.

She unexpectedly found a way to reconnect with what she missed from Puerto Rico by hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Alex has since grown into a thriving outdoor athlete, focused on trail running, mountain/gravel biking, and mountaineering. She runs a yearly adventure project she calls Difficult Pursuits, where she finds ways to perform unique challenges in the outdoors as a way to continuously prepare physically and mentally for her ultimate goal of becoming the first Puerto Rican female mountaineer. Taking up space in this field serves two greater purposes for Alex: increase accessibility of outdoor sports and experiences for women of color, and to elevate Puerto Rico in the greater outdoor sports scene.

Alex volunteers her time supporting the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, The Cairn Project, and the AWE Summit Scholarship Foundation, with the intent of increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion outdoors, as well as increasing outdoor education and recreation for underrepresented communities.
