Marinel M. de Jesus was a civil rights lawyer from Washington, DC for 15 years before she decided to become a global mountain nomad as a way to pursue her passion for hiking and traveling. She runs the media platform, Brown Gal Trekker, her mountain trekking social enterprise, Equity Global Treks, and her non-profit human rights organization, The Porter Voice Collective. Marinel's personal mission is to elevate the voices and status of women, indigenous communities, and people of color in the outdoor and travel spaces by utilizing the power of storytelling in all forms. She works as a solutions-focused freelance travel and outdoor writer and as a public speaker with a focus on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the outdoor and travel industries. Marinel has trekked and traveled to over 65 countries to date. True to her identity as a global mountain nomad, she is based across the various mountainous regions that Equity Global Treks takes her, scouting for hiking trails, community and women-led tourism initiatives worldwide.
