What does mobility mean to you? Take a minute and really think about it. Is there a time you can remember where your mobility was limited or completely stripped away? Maybe you were injured? Sick? Or depressed? Maybe all three? Even if it was just a few days, being immobile can have drastic negative impacts on our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. According to the World Health Organization, almost everyone will temporarily or permanently experience disability at some point in their life (WHO,
Navigating the question of “Where are you from?” has never been a simple one for me to answer. It brings into question which of the following identity markers speaks the most to who we are; is it nationality, ethnicity, racial identity or residency. Under the laws of the settler colonial nation of the United States, I am a U.S citizen. I consider myself a resident, a visitor and in many ways a settler on Coast Salish territory, primarily living in the ancestral lands of the Snoqualmie and Duwamish peoples, also known as the greater

Mi packraft está inflado y listo para adentrarse en las gélidas aguas en busca de joyas de seis patas. Preparo mi equipo de investigación y aseguro los elementos esenciales dentro

Sudden rains percolate through the loose mountainside, intensifying the water flow. My packraft is inflated and ready to enter the gelid waters in search of six-legged jewels. I prepare my collecting gear and secure all other essentials inside a dry bag in my backpack. I am ready to go.
I spent most of my youth outside, though I never considered myself outdoorsy. I grew up in a semi-rural area in Southern Indiana, next-door to a small church with a pond and a couple acres of woods in my backyard. My entire childhood, I felt that there was something about me that was different from my peers. I was quiet and shy, and I never felt like I really fit in with the other kids in my life. But in my yard - my woods - I could just exist. I felt free there.
In 2022, The Conservation Alliance undertook the second round of its Confluence grants program. The goal of this program is to intentionally connect to historically racially excluded people for the protection of natural places. It is a first step in our efforts to help create new systems and structures that bring all conservation stakeholders together. In the spirit of expanding our community and the way we think about our funding, the second year of this program included new advisory committee members who revised the funding criteria and
