Light Day Pack

4

I bought the Daylite about 2-1/2 years ago. I've drugged this bag all over US and Europe. I treat it as my man-purse on travel days, easy grab items on planes - water bottle, book, light jacket, etc. I used this bag for day sightseeing trips throughout Europe and US, in all weather conditions. Enough space for light jacket, camera, snacks, water bottle, and other small items. During winter, it keeps my camera other gear dry. Side pockets do not have any elastic banding, to help hold in water bottles and travel mugs. My water has a lanyard to hold keep the cap attached, so I thread the buckle strap through to keep the water bottle tethered to my bag. My travel mug sometimes jumps out when I put the bag in airplane overhead bins. Adding elastic to side pockets may be easy, but I'm not good with sewing beyond reattaching shirt buttons.

Great for what it's meant for

This bag is great for what it was designed for! I dont understand the negative reviews. This is an add-on bag that attaches to a main backpack. It carries a hydration bladder perfectly. Those are not water bottle holders on the outside - they are meant to stash small items you need access throughout the day - like snacks or a bandana. It's lightweight and rugged. I've used mine a lot for over 2 years and it still looks like new. I wear it daily during summer as a daypack (I'm a summer camp director) and 2-3 weekends a month it goes camping with me (Boy Scout and Girl Scout camping trips - about half of those it's used as the added on bag it was made to be). I love the small pocket on front because small stuff like knife, lighter, and headlamp don't get lost amid other things and can be retrieved quickly.

Needs an upgrade

I work for the BLM and need this bag to carry my lunch and first aid and water. I love the little pocket at the top and how lightweight the backpack itself is, and the material. I am disappointed that the mesh side pockets do not fit my nalgene, nor are they deep enough for my kleenkanteen, both pop out when the back is 60% full. Also, as a person with a short torso, I need this pack to fit high and the way the handle strap is placed, when I pull the shoulder straps tight to comfort and the waist strap comfortably also, the handle strap at the top pinches into my neck, therefore I have to wear it loose, causing back pain. So some day's I choose back pain over neck pain. I will say, I have been using it everyday for the past 3 months and the zippers, straps and padding have all held up beautifully.

Great add on pack. Could use a slightly thicker hip belt.

First I will start the review by telling people to ignore a lot of the bad reviews on here. All those people complaining about water bottles falling out the side pockets bought the wrong bag. They are not water bottle pockets. This is a hydration day pack designed to attach to your main pack. If you are not going to use a hydration bladder then buy a bag with side pockets designed for water bottles. Bought an osprey 2.5 LT bladder and it fits perfectly in my main pack and this. My only minor complaint is the hip belt could be a bit bigger but if you use it how it is intended then it is fine. If you want a nice lightweight bag that can attach to you main pack and intend to use a bladder then buy this pack. If you want something with more features then buy a talon or tempest.

Average bag that's almost versatile

I bought this as a bus commuter bag. I picked it up because it was lightweight, had chest and waist straps, front pocket with a key holder and two water bottle holders. Sadly the waterbottle holders are terrible; the angle of the opening plus the curvature of the bag causes them to fall out all the time! I finally had to use a carabiner to keep mine on. Also the front pocket is not very big. The two interior mesh pockets are nice, but I wish they had made this deeper. Or alternatively put another pocket on the inside if the main compartment, The daylight is a lightweight bag that comes in great colors and almost suited all my needs, but alas the fact it can't hold water bottles very well means I can't recommend this bag to anyone.

Durable bag

I bought this to attach to my porter, which has been fantastic. It's size, weight and durability have been fantastic along with the two mesh side pockets. Although, I have two main complaints, the first is that is VERY uncomfortable to wear on your front as it chokes me with the 'handle'. There are times I would rather do this than take the time to attach to my main bag. I also find if it is worn for a long day my shoulders really hurt and I struggle to find a comfortable fit with it. A combination of both padding and the size, adjustability of the straps. The second is the small front pocket, this is my more used 'stash' pocket and if it's full (which it often is) and the main compartment isn't full enough it falls forward when open often spilling the contents everywhere. I am actually in the process of researching a new day pack to replace my daylite with these as my main considerations!

Worst day pak I have ever used!

1

Bought this as a supplement to a Porter 46 (which I loved!) for a 1-month adventure in southern Indian. This pack was difficult to pack, very difficult to extract items from; small top/front compartment spills items when larger compartment open; accessible mesh side pockets hold nothing when pack is full, do not hold a water bottle even when pack is empty. A total disappointment and frustration. I returned the pack at the end of a month.

Decent small profile pack...but

The Osprey Daylite Daypack is a pretty good backpack, but it could be better. Here is how; The webbing type material on the inside of the shoulder straps while probably used for good intentions; like stability during movement or something, destroyed the shoulders on my Exofficio waterproof light travel jacket. It seems to have roughed up the exterior shoulder area. The material is now frayed and looks like I'd had the jacket for multiple trips. I only used that jacket, with the backpack on a single 2.5 week trip. I maybe used the backpack every other day on that trip while walking about. I still love the backpack for what else it is designed for but you should probably remove that grid/mesh material in future builds. I will modify the pack that I have to this doesn't happen to any other expensive travel jackets.

I returned it...poor design

1

I love my Osprey 22 yet wanted a smaller pack so I happily bought the Daylite. After using it for three day hikes where my water bottle continually fell out due to the angle of the pocket and/or the lack of elastic to hold it in the whenever I leaned over, I sadly returned. Great size, light weight, terrible design. Please Osprey fix it!

LOVE this pack!

I am a guide and have used this pack every day for 2 years. It's fantastic! It holds all the essentials I need for a day at work and fits comfortably on my back and shoulders. I can easily fit a .75L or a 1L CamelBak bottle in the side pockets easily without them sliding out. My biggest disappointment about my pack is that after 2 years of constant use it has faded slightly...but I guess that's understandable with the hours it's spent in the sun.
