In the desert Southwest we typically go on six day trips, mostly grand canyon stuff. However, our latest was the the Paria River canyon - 38 miles. The water is tough to filter so on two of the nights we had dry camps where we carried extra water. That, with the extra pair of water shoes, brought the pack load up to about 44 pounds. At the finish I was below 30. I would say a good comfortable max weight for this pack is around 34. I have used the pack on about 8 trips now. This is a stunningly good pack. My old pack weighed 5.5 and this one (Large, I am 6'3') is at 2.5 lbs. The mesh back really works and I find it easy to load and carry. I would not trade it, I would not attempt to go lighter, it is perfect.
