Dual stretch mesh side pockets give youngsters a place to store new found outdoor treasures such as shiny rocks or colorful leaves. There’s also a stretch mesh pocket on the shoulder strap for easy access to an energy bar or fruit roll up. An external reservoir pocket makes refills easy and reduces the chance of moisture inadvertently entering the main compartment. Because Osprey knows the secret to a happy kid is warmth and the secret to warmth is always having one dry layer.
got these for the Kids 2 years ago when they were 6 + 8 they've used them on many backpacking trips and they still fit well at 8 and 10 years old . the packs are small so it limits the amount of weight each child can carry which is good they are comfortable and both girls can carry their pack easily 4 miles. Usual load is a down blanket, sleeping pad, rain gear, fleece, cup, and water bottle. The kids usually add a toy or book, or something. All the straps are sized correctly for children.

Perfect hiking backpack starter for my 4 year old.
Perfect first pack for my 4 year old. Being a fan of Osprey for my own backpacking I searched around and found this. The hip buckle disperses the weight and allows for the inclusion of a water bladder.Since my son now has his own pack, it has decreased my pack's weight by over 15 pounds since he can "carry his own weight". The cool part is a built-in whistle on the chest strap which can be a bit annoying at first when my son "tested" it, but is good to know he has one handy, just in case. The adjustments ability is great and a perfect miniaturized hiking pack for any kid starting out, without quality being compromised.
