Amazing product, basically a black hole. No matter how many books, binders, laptops, I throw into it, it can always take more. It looks great, feels great, its a win all around. I love how adjustable to straps are. Also the "highly breathable mesh backing" or whatever they call it really works. With my previous backpack, which was some High Sierra, my back would get sweaty after a day hike, or long use. I have been using this product for 6 months now, and had that problem. Just fyi, the laptop sleeve has enough room to store a jacket or two, or three, or some folders if you don't carry around a laptop. To address the guy who said the kickstand didn't work, it's because you didn't think to adjust the straps. I had that problem for a couple minutes and was disappointed until I adjusted the straps at the bottom of the pack that cinch everything together. After I adjusted the straps, the kickstand has worked every single time, even when I stuff this thing full (a rare occasion). All in all, I can't recommend this product enough.
My New Camera Backpack
I have multiple camera backpacks from Lowepro, Mafrotto, Think Tank, etc and as a tall guy 6'4" I can tell you that none of them are comfortable after any sort of length of time.
I have been searching for some time to find something that makes sense, but is also comfortable. Then by chance, stumbled across this pack at my local REI. First off, there are four separate zippered areas. The one closest to your back has a suspended internal sleeve and that is where I put an iPad. The main area I keep a pair of spare socks and put the laptop. the front storage are is great for all the memory cards, cables, pens, etc. There is a top zippered compartment that fits an Osprey Ultralight Zip Organizer (just barely).
The main compartment is where I keep my camera equipment. I use an Osprey Ultralight Stuff Sack to put my rain jacket in. Also keep a Lenscoat Raincoat Rain Sleeve and a hat. This is under the camera itself which provides protection under it, but also distributes the weight better on the pack. The camera and lenses are kept in a padded camera insert (12.5" x 8.4" x 4.5") I have one divider in it that I put a Canon 70-200L or 100-400L on that side. On the other side I have a 24-70L that is mounted onto the camera. Both lenses are face down and they come up almost even. I can store it with the large lens but the small lens is lower. When in this configuration I put my GoPro on that side. With either configuration, there is room enough on top to place a third lens or an external flash such as a Profoto A1. I do use a Blackrapid strap so that is a bit beefy as well, but still does fine.
The sides are perfect as I keep a water bottle on one side and use the other for a carbon fiber travel tripod that is small and stores perfectly. The compression strap wraps nicely around the legs to keep it tight to the backpack.
A couple of cons on an otherwise perfect pack:
1. The waist belt is just a bit of webbing. Oops out of room great pack
Best purchase this year
I use this pack a lot. I'm a college student and an adventurer, and this pack has held everything I've ever needed it to, from photography equipment (dslr, extra lens, tripod and a flash), 10 lbs (4.5 kg) of books and a laptop, extra gear for when the weather switches, groceries for a week, and often all of it together. It's stayed comfortable and classy with up to 25 lbs (11 kg) loaded, doesn't mind rain, and has been a true joy to use.
Kickstand is not very functional
I like this backpack overall for use as a school backpack and it could also be used as a casual day pack. The back is very comfortable and well ventilated on the back. Its shortcoming for me is that the waist straps are basically just a clip and that can be not the most comfortable for some. Additionally my biggest complaint is that the bag is supposed to have a built in stand however the majority of load configurations do not work and the bag will just fall over. So if the built in stand is why you're going to purchase this bag I'd recommend looking elsewhere. The pack is a good pack but this feature is not well executed. I originally got the pack in red but found it to be too bright for my tastes and switched it out for the blue. The blue is much more reserved and I like it a lot. In conclusion this is a good back but the stand feature doesn't work well.
