CHEMISTRY

From water repellents to dyes, chemicals are necessary to create our high-quality products — but they don't need to be harmful.

To minimize hazardous or long-term consequences to both our environment and ourselves, we use only the lowest impact, safest and highest-performing chemicals.

We have adopted the bluesign® Restricted Substances List, are shifting all chemical DWR treatments to PFC-free and we practice responsible chemical management through strict and audited compliance.

WHAT IS THE BLUESIGN® RSL?

We adhere to the bluesign® Restricted Substances List [RSL], which consists of chemicals that are forbidden or limited during manufacturing or in finished products. Eliminating harmful chemicals at the onset of our manufacturing process ensures a minimum chemical impact on people and our environment. In addition to adopting the bluesign® RSL, we submit materials to a third-party lab for chemical analysis and spot-checking.

SHORT-CHAIN DWR

For years, long-chain perfluorinated chemicals [PFCs] have been found in durable water repellent [DWR], a surface treatment that prevents water from saturating fabric. Today, we know long-chain PFCs are persistent in and harmful to the environment. So, we've shifted our DWR treatment for all in-line products to short-chain C6 and all new products to PFC-free or C0. Our ultimate goal is to be C0 PFC-free across our entire line by 2022.
